Explore life
in the Gram Sea
Welcome to Gram Clay Pit in Southern Jutland - a journey into the prehistoric past. Perfect for families and fossil enthusiasts alike, our paleontological museum and nearby clay pit offer a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating world of fossils.
Ten million years ago, the area was covered by the Gram Sea. Today, you can learn about the incredible sea creatures that once swam these waters and even try your luck at finding your own fossils in the clay pit.

Megalodon and
mighty whales
The museum exhibition features Denmark’s largest fossilised skeletons, which are the remains of extinct whales, such as the Uranocetus. Several of the Gram Sea fossils are quite unique, and the whale fossils are not found anywhere else in the world.
You can also explore the remains of giant sharks, such as the Megalodon, and fossils of seals, fish, crabs, sea urchins, snails, mussels, and other smaller animals that lived in the ancient sea.
Discover the true size of the giant shark Megalodon as you step inside a life-sized replica of its enormous jaws. You can also see a real Megalodon tooth on display in the exhibition. Get up close to this ancient ocean predator and learn more about the other incredible creatures that once swam alongside it in the prehistoric Gram Sea.

Fossil
hunting
In the clay pit, a fun and educational outdoor experience awaits the whole family, where you can search for fossils of ancient marine animals.
Equipped with a spade and fossil-hunting tools, you can uncover traces of the prehistoric ocean, once home to creatures like the Megalodon and mighty whales. If you are lucky, you will find snail and mussel shells, sea urchins and shark teeth, which you can take home with you.
When you dig for fossils, you are helping the museum to look for significant new finds from the past. Bones and other rare finds must be handed in to the museum.
Wellies, spades, and digging tools can be borrowed at the museum entrance - so you can enjoy your fossil hunt without worry.
Please note that you enter the clay pit at your own risk.
