Discover
Højer Mill
Located in the charming village of Højer, just on the edge of the Wadden Sea National Park, Højer Mill offers a unique museum experience. You are invited to explore the fascinating story of life shaped by the marshlands and the Wadden Sea.
Step inside the old mill and learn about traditional milling work. From the gallery of the mill, you can enjoy stunning views across Højer and the vast flat landscapes stretching towards the Wadden Sea.
Don’t miss a visit to the café in the mill house, where you can enjoy a selection of traditional Danish cakes – a perfect treat after your journey through history and nature.

Mill, Museum,
and Marsh
At a height of twenty-two metres, Højer Mill is one of the tallest Dutch-style mills in Northern Europe. Most of the mill’s original features have been preserved, giving you the opportunity to experience how the mill once operated and learn about traditional milling methods.
The former grain store is now used for exhibitions, where you can learn about the landscape and geography of the Tønder Marsh and gain insight into the function of dykes, locks, canals, and pumping stations.
In the Mill’s Climate Lab, you can step into an interactive universe where you can create your own version of the Tønder Marsh and attempt to deal with the challenges it presents. The exhibition also features stories from the Wadden Sea region not only in Denmark but also from the Netherlands and Germany.
