Step into the charming Dr\u00f8hse\u2019s House, a small museum set in a beautifully preserved historical house in the heart of T\u00f8nder. The museum offers an intimate journey into the delicate and rich history of T\u00f8nder lace.<\/p>\n

Explore the craftsmanship behind this traditional craft art, watch intricate bobbin lace up close, and gain a deeper understanding of its cultural significance. The museum also hosts small, temporary exhibitions of local arts and crafts.<\/p>\n

\n T\u00f8nder Lace <\/span>
history<\/span> <\/h2>\n

In the region of T\u00f8nder, bobbin lace has a unique history, tying knots with the region, the people, and the cultural developments.<\/p>\n

From about the early 1600s, bobbin lace was practised in the T\u00f8nder region and, during the 1700s, T\u00f8nder lace enjoyed its golden age. Thousands of lacemakers crafted beautiful lace of the finest linen thread.<\/p>\n

After 1864, the lacemaking tradition almost died out, but it experienced a renaissance as a unique cultural feature of Southern Jutland following the Reunification in 1920.<\/p>\n

Learn more about lacemaking and the lacemakers and explore the rich cultural heritage of T\u00f8nder in the exhibitions at the museum.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t forget to step outside into the T\u00f8nder Lace Garden, whose design is inspired by a two-hundred-year-old lace pattern in the museum collection.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

Architecture <\/span> <\/h2>\n

Dr\u00f8hse\u2019s House, built in 1672, is a beautiful baroque house, in which many original architectural details and high-quality workmanship are preserved.<\/p>\n

Following extensive restoration work, the house received a prestigious Europa Nostra award in 1985.<\/p>\n

The house reflects traditional West Schleswig architecture and is furnished with antique furniture and paintings. In the old kitchen, you will see the original fireplace that has been preserved. In the cellar, you can explore an exhibition of T\u00f8nder architecture, view a scale model of the town, and discover a unique collection of iron stoves.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n
